Italy pt I: Getting there

First off we must thank Dewy for doing an insane amount of driving over the past few days. ESPECIALLY at Cinque Terre. Those are not roads to be trifled with.
We were packed and ready for the drive as soon as Dewy finished work on Thursday night.

I started taking pictures the morning after we first took off. We rented someone's apartment for the night, in Largo de Garda…I think?  All I know is that it was quite dark during our drive there, but you knew you were in Italy when the mountains sprouted and the roads got ridiculously winding.

Here's the apartment. I think renting apartments is 10 times funner than hotels. This apartment was up in a little valley, the building wasn't photogenic, but it was comfortable.

Wesley had this terrible cough/wheeze that first night, it was sad.

Ah…the decor.

We took a look out the window and found a playground, so we played there for a bit before we headed out again. The view was great!

WoOoOoOw. We were excited.

The place we stayed at was close to some sort of castle outpost type thing, cool!
The boys love zip lines. Max thinks they're a bit dull though ha ha!

After checking out of the apartment, we searched for some breakfast and did a little walking around.

Anyone feel like eating breakfast at an outdoor beanbag courtyard? ha ha sheesh.

We had some fun down at the lake.

Dewy skipped some rocks, much to Max's fascination.

This is not a tantrum. Sometimes Wes runs low on fuel, stops what he's doing, and flattens on the ground. Whether it be on the street by the car, at the beach, or in the middle of a race ha ha ha!

Max was having a fuzzy hair day.

Liz pointed out the Restroom sign to me, what a hoot.

Back on the road again. Now that it was daytime, we could see what we were driving through. Not surprised to see vineyards, but it was awesome to see them pretty much EVERYWHERE.

While driving in the first mountain region, we saw lots of terraced vineyards, castles, and we started getting a good idea of the general architectural stuff most houses had.

I found it interesting that lots of the mountains were steep with little dirt, and yet these trees were sprouting on them like fuzz.

Once we got out of the first mountain region, we drove through lots of flat land. It was common to pass run down houses, which I found really cool.

Max got out of his seat anytime we had a gas stop, he was a hoot.

Lots of vineyards in the flat areas too, along with lots of run down houses.

Passed the strangest train station.

After a good 5 hours or so, we started getting back into mountains again. There are so many little groups of houses that pop up on random parts of the mountains, church included. Loved looking at the buildings!

With many mountains come many tunnels. Much to the joy of the boys.

To drive through places like Switzerland and the Czech Republic, you have to buy a vignette before your car is allowed in. Whereas Italy has you pay tolls all over the place.

Things just got greener and greener. There is no shortage of Olive and Lemon trees in Italy.

Yay! The driving was nice, but once we got to Levanto on the coast, the fun began.
